Black Wednesday Publishers Lunch referred to today as “Black Wednesday,” with the bad news coming from Simon and Schuster, and more coming from Random House—this all coming on top of news we’ve been hearing lately about the likes of Barnes and Noble, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and just about every independent bookseller you can think of. And here we all said that publishing is a “recession-proof” industry. I guess not.
So is there any good news we can take away from this as an industry? Is there any silver lining to a cloud that’s hovering over our heads for too long? I usually keep my eye on the trade-book industry, but living through something for the history books is something that can’t be ignored (so naturally, I couldn’t ignore it here).
Back to the trade side of things, I recently read “The Hunger Games,” by Suzanne Collins, and I was absolutely blown away. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I’m still trying to find my next project to tackle, so if you have any books to recommend, leave a comment. Until then, Seth out! ...11/12/2008 12:11 PM Post Comment | Read More> |
