Lazy Frankly, after the last three weeks, I’ve been really lazy. But, new habits die…eventually. And, today’s Halloween so there’s something to celebrate even if there’s not necessarily something to talk about.
The truth is there’s actually plenty to talk about, I’m just not the one to do the talking. The Sharjah World Book Fair is going on as we speak, and the Award Winners and Bestsellers Exhibit, organized by us at Combined Book Exhibit and The London Book Fair is a huge important international exhibit of huge important stature. Unfortunately, the boss—who’s at the show now—isn’t much for updates. So the real news is happening, we’ll just be behind the 8-ball in reporting it.
So then let’s talk about Halloween. I’m dressing up at Wall-E. What are YOU dressing up as? ...

Even though I’m back in the office, my mind is still at the fair—and my body’s still on German time. But, as is the case with every fair, it does no good to keep my mind in the past when there’s so much happening both now and in the future to be looking forward to.

The here and now has a lot going on too that I’m really excited about. For example, tomorrow I’m going to a lunch hosted by the Young to Publishing Group, a division of the AAP. I have a meeting with some of their people after for a project I’m working on and very excited about. I’ll update you when I feel I’m at liberty to.

The word around town is that yesterday (Saturday) was essentially the last day of the fair, or at least for us in the English-language hall. The hall is officially open to the public and much of the exhibit staff in most booths have already started to pack their free totes and suitcases for the trek home—wherever home may be. For us, we have one more day in the exhibit hall, set to open in about an hour and a half. Since the “business” has more or less concluded, we have a great opportunity to take in all that we’ve seen and accomplished over the fair. A fair like So I’ll begin my true reflection as I’m packing books and panels, and taking one last lap around…well, around wherever my legs can carry me to, and quite frankly that’s not very far. But I know when I get on the plane tomorrow (finally!), I won’t feel like I’m leaving Frankfurt, Germany, but that I’m leaving The Frankfurt International Book Fair. ... 10/18/2008 10:10 PM Post Comment | Read More> |
