Just a Pretty Face I know PW has had quite a few articles on book covers and why some are better than others, but Entertainment Weekly has made a list of the 25 best! I don't know why these qualify, but what do you think? ...07/08/2008 01:07 PM Post Comment | Read More> What Season is it? I’m home! It’s been a while since I sat as this desk with no deadline looming or trip in lying in the wings. It’s nice, although I am surprisingly melancholy over the end of exhibit season.
But, with the end of exhibit season, it becomes summer, which of all the official seasons recognized by the world, certainly best represents relaxation. After nine nights of hearing the bang of fireworks over Disneyland, I took the fourth of July off from this particular feat. I did see “Wall-E” however, which I recommend a million times over. It’s the first time one of my film friends said “It’s a beautiful film,” and I understood what this meant. And, with the lack of dialog throughout most of the movie, it’s really a lot like reading a book, because you can’t rely on the exposition of dialog, but you must read what’s happening on the screen.
I also saw “The Incredible Hulk,” which is of course based on a comic book. What Marvel is doing with their films is truly revolutionary (as long as they continue). For more on that, I point you here and here, where the idea is summed up by someone way more in tune to the universe than I am.
I don’t want to concentrate too much on the summer being movie season. Summer’s also reading season for almost anyone. It’s a time of vacation—beach reading, plane reading, travel reading…theme park reading?—so everyone’s looking for a great book, or a quick book, or a mindless book, or that one book you don’t have time to read during work/school/studying for the Bar Exam. (Of course, exhibit season allows me to do that all year).
