Not in Disneyland, but Still Saying Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Day three of ALA just opened up less than an hour ago, but the Internet just started working, so I thought what they hay? Anaheim is the most touristy of any tourist town I can remember going to, and might be having an adverse effect on the exhibit hall. The crowded aisles...well...aren't too crowded. Still plenty of great people coming through though, so have no fear! I didn't get a chance to check out the Wii booth yesterday (the second day of the show), but as of today (the third day of the show), I still don't have a Wii. I blogged a way long time ago about video games in libraries, and it got a bit of a negative response. But, it looks like gaming is taking off (hence the Wii booth). I still wish I had a Wii. ...06/30/2008 09:06 AM Post Comment | Read More> ALA One The Wii booth was the busiest booth I saw today. Seriously, there's a Wii booth here! I wish I had a Wii... ... 06/28/2008 04:06 PM Post Comment | Read More> Mountains Aren't Always Mountains I’m currently in the Anaheim Convention Center almost all set up for The ALA Annual conference. With 30 booths, this was one helluva mountain to climb, but we’re at the top, and come Saturday morning when the show officially opens, we’ll begin our descent towards the end of the show and the exhibit season (not that we’re celebrating that end, but the summer off would be nice…). Among the things, we are celebrating is year 75 of Combined Book Exhibit, though we’re still not sure the capacity which we’ll be celebrating. I’m crossing my fingers for ice cream cake, but I doubt that’ll come to any fruition.
I’ve never been to Anaheim before, but I’ve had a pretty good time so far. As the home of Disneyland, there’s not much else to do besides Disneyland, so we headed over there on Wednesday night, courtesy of our friend from Bowtie Press. At 10:30 at night, you’d be surprised how crowded the park still is. Even though Star Tours had almost no line, Space Mountain was still an hour wait. We managed to go to another mountain however—Thunder Mountain—and enjoy the ride. Most of it anyway. The ride stopped almost near the end, and we had to descend from our position 90% up an incline (heading towards the grand finale drop). Word from the inside: Thunder Mountain’s not a real mountain.
No, not all mountains are real, but this exhibit season has been like Everest. We’re heading towards a well deserved rest, but we still have an exciting ALA Annual to kick off tomorrow. I’m still hoping for a 75th anniversary ice cream cake, but I’ve come to realize that even though Disneyland can “Make a Million Dreams Come True,” they can’t make the nearest convention center cold enough to accommodate my every hope and dream. ...
