My Bloggy-WogA bit less than a year ago, I was wondering around Piccadilly Circus, while at the same time, my boss Janet was attending the British Book Awards. The next morning over breakfast, Janet retold me all the details she could remember, including seeing J.K. Rowling, these two talk show hosts that were incredibly famous (who she of course had no familiarity with), and of seeing this wild-haired man who’s name she couldn’t remember, but knew that he had won an award for a memoir or autobiography called “My Booky-Wook.” When she looked in the program and read that his name was (and still is) Russell Brand, I knew the name immediately. Of course, I knew the name immediately not because of his level of fame—or as the case may be, infamy—but because he was in a movie that was about to come out at the time called “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” While the movie didn’t take off quite as high as other movies associated with that particular producer’s other movies (namely, “Knocked Up,” and “The 40 Year Old Virgin”), something about Brand stuck in America. Or at least had some adhesive too it. Brand would soon host the MTV Video Music Awards (for some reason), and completely bomb. Fast forward to, well now. “My Booky-Wook” is now available in a store near you, right here in the US-of-A. Do you know who Russell Brand is yet? It’s quite possible you do not. I however had the pleasure of seeing his stand up performance last night (and quite literally walking right into him). Brand has no qualms with his infamy in his home country, or his lack of fame here in America, but it all adds to his charm. How often do we read the memoirs of someone we don’t know? I do it all the time. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on this particular book(y-wook) though, and putting some of the stories behind the jokes into context. Hopefully, it’ll make me laughy-waugh. Posted by : Seth | 03/13/2009 12:03 PM Post a Comment
