Welcome to 2009So the year has been rung in! I hope everyone had a great New Years Eve, and isn’t dreading being back to the grind so much. After all, we do have plenty to look forward to. First up on the schedule this year, as it is every year, is ALA Midwinter, and sadly I’m not at all qualified to call what might be a big winner at the Children’s Media Awards (although I’d love for “The Hunger Games” to get some recognition because I loved it!). No matter what book it might be, you can bet that I’ll be sitting there excitedly awaiting the announcements. I closed out my year with “Haristyles of the Damned,” by Joe Meno (and published by Akashic Books which is emerging as one of my favorite indie presses, and one that I’m obviously one of the last people to jump on the bandwagon for). I absolutely loved this book. It really brought me back to high school, and I’ve been listening to The Misfits like it’s my job ever since finishing the book (side note: I’ve also discovered Pandora Radio, which is a really cool Internet radio tool that is helping to indulge my Misfits craving). Currently I’ve switched back to my favorite genre, which I call “personal stories/essays by funny or funnyish people,” and am enjoying my way through “Dumbfounded” by Matt Rothschild (and published by Crown). I really love his writing, and his stories, and the fact that his last name has five consecutive consonants. I’m looking forward to his next book. Will it come in 2009? I don’t know, but I do know that not knowing adds even more excitement to the New Year. So Happy New Year everyone! Posted by : Seth | 01/05/2009 01:01 PM Post a Comment
